Kamon Series consist of Adobe Flash Lite interactive art pieces created specifically for cell phones. Based from traditional Japanese kamons the artwork is a result from a application written for cellphones that utilizes cell phone signals to determine the artworks composition.

The original project was called "Red Day", created circa 2003, using Adobe Flash/Flashlite for Series 60 devices and pocketPC devices.
"Page 4" - Mobile Art Timepiece. The project is an explorative minimal art piece for mobile devices. The art piece is an ever changing composition that also serves as a functional time piece. Depending on the time of Page 4 the minimal composition and color change in relation to the time of Page 4. Through time the user can learn the time just by quickly glancing at the colors and composition. View a video documentation.
The interactive piece is dynamically created from happy feelings that have been tweeted from people between specific times using twitter. The piece explores dynamic art creation using social media and how to display updated mood based information data as an art form.
PHP was used to search twitter for today's tweets that expressed happiness. jQuery was used to parse, animate and compose the data being presented. I hope to explore and inspire a unique perspective on what data is and how it may be translated into art. View the project
Ipponme
This ongoing interactive and print art series originally started in (circa 2006). Using Adobe Flash Actionscript and a web camera (webcam) as a medium, the interactive piece tracks motions perceived by the webcam. The piece translates the motions and displays visual pieces in real time. The experimental art is an exploration into how we perceive objects and movement – how a machine may view objects and movement.

The interactive piece explores folksonomy and how we define emotions and how we associate them with imagery. The art piece dyanmically retrieves the latest images from Flickr associated with joy and sadness and creates a subtle collage. The collage is ever changing, always displaying latest imagery from Flickr. My hope is to explore and inspire a unique perspective on what data is and how it may be translated into art. Artwork
A gallery of artistic exploration, experimentation and research into social media art,
folksonomy art, interactive motion tracking art, augmented reality art and cell phone art.
The purpose is to explore ways of translating data into interactive art pieces
- to give a new perspective of what dynamic data is... or can be.
Artist's Statement
I have been passionate about exploring ways of translating data into interactive art pieces,
to give a new perspective of what data is...or can be.
Some of my work involves cell phones or mobile devices using cell phones signals to dynamically create visual compositions which are displayed on the cell phone screen. Cell phones creating art for cell phones. Other pieces of art, I have been exploring how internet users define abstract terms by using social media tools such as flickr and/or twitter to dynamically create visual montages... A visual & interactive exploration into folksonomy.
And other pieces of interactive art pieces based off people physical world motions as translated by a motion tracking web camera to produce dynamically creating art pieces.
Kamon Series: Mobile Art
Cellphone art, created by cellphones.
This ongoing interactive and print art series originally started in 2004, and created for mobile phones and/or PDA devices. The interactive art piece utilizes Adobe's Flashlite technology to obtain a persons cellphone signal as a medium. These cellphone signals are then used by a Flash based (AI) to interpret and create a personalized visual representation of the cellphone signals using Japanese kamons as a visual element.
These cellphone art pieces represent exploration into found interactive compositions, evolved from cell phone signals, influenced by Japanese culture and symbols.
Some artwork was selected to be featured in the Helio Art Gallery, Santa Monica, CA.
Page 2
Page 2 is an interactive art piece created to explore interactions between the viewer and the art. The piece also represents a personal reflection on the story of Sadako.
Sadako also known for "thousand origami cranes", was a Japanese girl who was two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, near her home by Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. As she was dying from leukemia which was caused by radiation exposure, she started to fold 1000 origami cranes. An ancient Japanese story promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods.
The art piece uses Adobe Flash for motion detection to change the composition of cranes based off the viewers actions. Naturally, a video camera will be necessary to view the artwork. View the project
